Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru has been handed a late international call-up to the national
team for the crucial Afcon 2019 qualifier in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Nigeria face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 17 in the return leg fixture of the Afcon qualifier.
Sportsfora.com gathers information that Super Eagles leading marksman Odion Ighalo suffered
an injury in Changchun Yatai’s 2-2 draw with Tianjin Quanjian on Wednesday evening.
Also,the former Watford star underwent a scan on Thursday morning which determined that
he will spend 4-5 weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury which led to his substitution
after 17 minutes in yesterday’s Super League clash.
Ighalo who was vital in coach Gernot Rohr’s plans for the Afcon fixture will have to be absent in
the all-important match.
Also, in the first leg Super Eagles lost the first leg 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium,
Uyo when both sides met.
Nigeria have won their last three AFCON qualifier games, scoring 10 times with Ighalo
contributing six of the goals.
The Galatasaray striker Onyekuru has had his own injury problems but has fully recovered and
started for the Turkish club in their last two games against Fenerbahce and Schalke 04.
Onyekuru has an opportunity to prove his worth when Nigeria files out against the Bafana
Bafana in Johannesburg.
