Plateau United, the current champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) gets a new coach.
The Jos based club bid coach Kennedy Boboye farewell who left at the expiration of his two-year contract after helping the side win the NPFL title.
In his place, Plateau United have signed former Akwa United coach Abdu Maikaba on a two-year deal, with the option of an extension if he performs well.
He assured his new employers that he has joined club to ensure they retain the NPFL title when the 2018/19 season begins.
Abdu Maikaba who’s also known as “The Teacher” has set a target on winning a double – the NPFL title and the Aiteo Cup with Plateau United.
CAF Champions League exit
United were crowned champions of the 2017/18 football season after 14 matches in the NPFL due to the football crisis that bedeviled Nigerian football.
As a result, they represented Nigeria in the CAF Champions League alongside MFM –
they failed to go past the group stage of the continental tournament.
Maikaba will be faced with the daunting task of managing the side to surpass
the achievements of Kennedy Boboye as fans of Plateau United will not settle for anything less.
“The first challenge is to retain that trophy.
The second challenge is to make sure we win the other trophy, ‘AITEO Cup’,” Maikaba said on the NPFL website.
Akwa United will get a replacement to fill the vacuum left by Maikaba is filled.
Maikaba will be missed by the ‘Promise Keepers’ but he has also gotten himself a good job at Plateau United.
